About Our World Bank Assisted Reward Water Shed Development Project
The World Bank-assisted REWARD (Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development) Project supports sustainable watershed development, climate-resilient agriculture, improved natural resource management, and strengthened rural livelihoods. ANIKETANA GNMSS has been involved in implementing REWARD activities in Vijayapura district, Karnataka, working closely with farming communities and local institutions.
Through the project, ANIKETANA has supported communities in adopting sustainable agricultural practices, watershed development activities, livelihood improvement initiatives, horticulture plantations, and income-generating activities. The interventions focus on improving farm productivity, strengthening resilience to climate-related challenges, restoring natural resources, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural households.
Our Key Activities Include
Conducting social mobilization, building rapport, generating awareness, and forming village-level Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and Gram Panchayat (GP) level project committees
Identifying vulnerable households through a participatory approach and organizing them into vulnerable groups, ensuring that the poorest communities are given maximum attention.
Assisting the Project Implementation Agency (PIA) in preparing and implementing capacity-building action plans for village and GP level committees to enhance their effectiveness.
Facilitating discussions with the community and local institutions on critical social and environmental issues, including sustainable natural resource management (NRM), soil and water conservation, stall feeding of animals, health and education, pesticide hazards, income-generating activities (IGAs), gender equality, social cohesion, social auditing, and more.

Providing continuous training and community management support at the village level to ensure the success of the project and its long-term impact on agricultural resilience and sustainability.
Key Highlights
Our Impact on the Ground
The REWARD Programme has strengthened community-led watershed development across the Honnutagi Sub-Watershed in Vijayapura. The project covered 7 villages, 9 micro-watersheds and 6,165 hectares, reaching 2,934 beneficiaries through participatory planning and watershed interventions.
Through ANIKETANA GNMSS’s field-level support, the programme strengthened Self-Help Groups, Area Groups and Watershed Executive Committees, enabling local communities—particularly women and vulnerable households—to participate in planning, implementation and monitoring.
The programme contributed to better awareness of soil and water conservation, climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable farming and livelihood opportunities, while promoting community ownership of natural resources and watershed assets. These efforts have created a stronger foundation for sustainable agriculture, resilient livelihoods and long-term natural resource management in the project area.
